Characters
Arcadia Cross - Protagonist -The daughter of Varian and Jocasta Cross, she works at her father's tech repair shop while also moonlighting as a Graffiti Rogue, hanging out with other fellow Graffiti Rogues in Edom by hacking into Unity systems to slow things down and upload obnoxious viruses, and tagging the Unity vehicles and police stations. She craves wide-open spaces and would love to get out of the Midlevels of Edom, as they make her feel trapped. She lives a very carefree life, composing her own music in the meantime and collecting holo-jewelry when she isn't working with her father. After her father is arrested and exposed as a Rogue however, she is (reluctantly) drafted into the "Freedom Fighters" faction of Rogues and relocated as her family is seen as a target. When Magnus defects, she becomes his handler, but is very cold towards him as he was the General who arrested her father.
Magnus Hasson - Antagonist turned Protagonist - One of Ducard's most trusted Generals. Magnus's family was one of Ducard's most vocal opponents during the change of regime, so Ducard thought to do away with them while twisting their son to serve at his side by staging an assassination that looked like Rogue fighters attacking the apartment and maiming his vision. Magnus has an external/internal implant near his right eyebrow that when pressed, projects a visor over his eyes that allows him to "see"; the technology isn't that great (he received the implant as a child and it was too delicate of a surgery to get a replacement years later), so the images of people/living things look grey/ghostly against the solid background. He's easy to fly into a rage and bottles up his feelings while on the job, only for them to explode during a sparring session match or over something trivial if he's had a particularly irritating day.
Athanasius Ducard - Antagonist -The charismatic and ruthless dictator of Genesis, Ducard took over the planet in a week-long coup that was several years in the making. He claims to want the best for the people, but has used entertainment to distract them from the fact that he's slowly taking away their freedoms. Ducard is a megalomaniac and also very paranoid about those under his thumb getting ideas on assassinating him, which is why he can never get too close to anyone. Ducard can hijack his soldiers through their chip implants (everyone on Genesis is chipped), and essentially uses them as avatars/pawns or a fly on the wall to listen in on what his troops think of him. He sees everyone as expendable so no one, not even blood relatives, are safe from being used and tossed to the side by him.
Electra Rothchild - Antagonist - Electra is the no-nonsense Governor of Edom. She had to prove herself in Ducard's army to advance. Coming from a poor background, she sees rank/status as one of the most important things in her life. She is fond of using brute force and intimidation than mind games when dealing with her enemies, which is why her city's police force is also recognized as the most brutal one on the planet. Electra has Magnus assigned to her city as head of the police unit of Edom to whip them into shape and deal with the growing Graffiti Rogue problem, as the Graffiti Rogues (isolated to the Sub and Midlevels) have been venturing into the Upperlevels as of late.
Drustanus Rothchild - Antagonist - Electra's fifteen-year-old brat who is currently enrolled in Edom's Unity Militia Academy. Electra trained Drustanus to be an efficient, obedient killer. He's clever and conniving. His emotional instabilities will surface at times of anger and stress. Drustanus used to idolize Magnus, but started to envy/dislike him when Magnus brushed him off upon their first in-person meeting. He grows jealous of Manus when the new General takes up the attention of his mother.
Bren Ward - Antagonist - The former General of Edom's police forces, demoted since Magnus took over his position. He's something of a rival to Magnus in that respect. Bren started to allow his police force to grow lax as he became distracted by things like clubbing and women, and is trying to break out of this slump and prove himself to Governor Rothchild so he can get his position back. He's smarter than he looks; people assume he's a dumb brute who just follows the rules. Bren grew up privileged and resents Magnus for advancing farther than him since he grew up in the orphanage system. One of Idothea's many boyfriends (a more permanent one).
Kord Harding - Protagonist - A childhood friend of Arcadia's. He started out as a Graffiti Rogue but was found out by the Freedom Fighters and drafted into their ranks for his espionage skills. Started a relationship with Arcadia right before her father was arrested; disappeared shortly afterwards to see if the Rogues he was working with could do something to help break out Varian from the detention center he was being held in, and later showed up at the Cross's residence to pick up Arcadia before Unity soldiers came to arrest the rest of the Cross family for suspicion of collaborating with the Rogues.
Xanthe Wood - Protagonist -Arcadia's best friend. She hung out with Arcadia and Kord as kids, but didn't join them in their Graffiti Rogue activities when they got older. She preferred not to get involved with agitating the Unity soldiers, but still liked to hang out with her friends when they weren't off pestering Unity. Xanthe has had a crush on Kord since she was a teen but has been too scared to tell him, and became upset when Kord expressed interest in Arcadia instead.
Oracle - Protagonist - An ally and something of an information source for the Rogues. Goes by the codename "Oracle." She is a recovered nano-addict who uses her nanites to access Genesis's planetwide information feed. While accessing the feed, she'll go into a trancelike state. Oracle can't stay plugged in for too long or else she would lose herself among the millions of people she's vicariously living through.
Ghost - Side Character - Oracle's apprentice and also a fallback for the Rogues if Oracle were ever hacked. Ghost is plugged in to the information feed 24/7 and suffers from disassociative disorder; since he's plugged in all the time, it's hard for him to remember who he is. He's something like a robot as he is very emotionless and only speaks to give information for people who ask.
Argus - Protagonist - A Lesser Noble who survived Ducard's Purge and is a leader of the Rogue movement. Goes by the codename "Argus," as he seems to have contacts and connections everywhere. No one knows what he looks like since he always wears a mask.
